Body & Home Organics
Welcome to Body and Home Organics. I’m Ellen, and I created this destination for women like you and me — and my daughters and our ever-widening circle of online friends.
It all began with a philosophy… "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty." (Anonymous said that, but I’m pretty sure Anonymous was a woman.) Kindness includes being kind to yourself and to your surroundings. It means avoiding ingredients that are harsh, unhealthy and even dangerous. Nurturing yourself, your family and our planet are so important, nothing else counts if you haven’t accomplished that. So I strive to include as many organic and all-natural ingredients as I possibly can in my lines. Have you noticed that "natural" has become a marketing buzzword almost devoid of meaning? When I talk about natural ingredients, I mean in their original state, not processed and refined beyond recognition.
Kindness also includes being kind to people you’ve never met and possibly never will. I support "fair trade" practices by carrying products that are handmade by Mayans in Guatemala as well as by an indigenous tribe called the Huiple. I love the idea of supporting these very talented people whose handiwork is just so beautiful.
The products I’ve discovered not only span across beauty, health and home, they truly span the globe. I’ve gone from Greece to India in search of entrepreneurs who share my respect for the environment and my desire to nurture ourselves - body and soul. What I’ve found are wonderful products that are not only earth and body friendly (animal-friendly, too), but very luxurious.
I’ve learned so much in my search for products that are a joy to use as well as safe and respectful of the environment. I’ve discovered how an herb can replace a petroleum product – which is kind of ironic when you consider that petroleum products were introduced to replace natural ingredients. We’ve come full circle, haven’t we? Also ironic to me is the notion of a toxic cleaning product. My home cleaning line leaves our environment as clean as what’s being cleaned. It’s so logical, and yet the grocery store aisles are filled with cleaning products that can’t make that most basic claim.
I’m also passionate about conservation. I not only look for products and packaging that contain recycled goods whenever possible, but are themselves recyclable. I try to be conscious of our environment from the product’s manufacturing process to the materials that I use in shipment.
